9 Ball Pool - Game Information

The objective of the game is to score as high as possible by potting all the balls in order.

You use the mouse to position the cue stick and click to set the direction. Arrow keys on the keyboard can be used for fine-tuning the set direction.

The ‘Power’ bar on the HUD decides the force with which the cue ball will be struck. Other options on the HUD are ‘English’ and ‘Massé’. These are advanced options that alter the path of the cue ball after you have hit it. Once these options have been set as required, click on ‘Shoot’ to deploy the cue ball.

The ‘Cancel’ button can be used to start setting up a shot again if you go wrong.

The balls must be potted in the order shown over the pool table else you will face a penalty of 50 points for hitting the wrong ball.

Points are scored for potting balls in the correct order (100 points for the 1-ball, 200 for the 2-ball, and so on, with 900 points assigned for the 9-ball). Points can be lost by commiting a foul and costs 50 points per foul.

The game only ends if the 9-ball is potted legally or if the timer runs out. You have 10 minutes to complete to the game so there is no need to rush every shot. Saved time is added to your total score as bonus.

When you commit a foul you will lose 50 points for the committed foul. Although it is important to note that none of the balls pocketed on the foul shot are to be re-spotted and no points will be awarded for them. An exception to this rule is that if the pocketed ball is the 9-ball, then it is to be respotted and you then continues with ball in hand.

There are many ways to commit a foul and they are listed here:

Bad Hit
If the first ball touched by the cue ball is not the lowest numbered ball on the table, the shot is considered a foul. If the cue ball does not touch any ball on its path before coming to a rest, the shot is considered a foul. In this case, you lose points for the foul and continue playing from where the cue ball has landed.
Scratch
If the cue ball is pocketed (even if in conjunction with other balls), the shot is considered a foul. In this case, you continue with ball in hand.

When the cue ball is in hand, you may position the cue ball anywhere on the playable bed surface of the table. You may not place it in such a position that it is in contact with a numbered ball. You may continue to make adjustments to the position of the cue ball until shooting.

This is one of the longer games, but it’s very challenging. A game with a real learning curve.
